Herbert C. Hoover Building

Delon Hampton & Associates (DHA) provided civil engineering services for the phased modernization of the Hoover Federal Building. The building is the oldest and largest of the historic Federal Triangle buildings. The 1.8 million SF federal office building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, serves as the headquarters for the U.S. Department of Commerce and houses approximately 3,000 staff. The renovations included interior updates; historic restoration of the shell, corridors and public spaces; structural upgrades; and complete modernization of all mechanical and electrical systems. The project is seeking LEED NC 2.0 Gold certification.

DHA's civil engineering design services included coordinating with District officials and GSA to meet the utility sizing, grading, streetscape, setbacks, driveway and curb cut locations, stormwater management, and water and sewer requirements. We obtained and reviewed existing on-site utility records. DHA also prepared demolition, site, grading, and sediment and erosion plans as well as water, sewer, and storm drain profiles.

During certain construction phases, we provided shop drawing and submittal review services, responded to requests for information, and performed site visits.
